First off….what does your intuition tell you about that question? Although I KNOW first hand the power of the MLM industry, and what it can do for the average entrepreneur, it always bugs me a bit when illusions are allowed to persist throughout the MLM community.
Can everyone do everything? Obviously not! Some people stink at basketball and no matter how hard they trained they would never be that good. While some it comes very easy too others. Now hold on a minute….I’m not saying people can’t improve themselves and work hard to achieve success in certain areas; that happens all the time. But I am saying MLM is obviously not for everyone.
Some people quite simply do not have the desire it takes to succeed in MLM. Some people don’t have the confidence it takes, the energy it takes, the belief level it takes, the persistence it takes….and they probably never will!
Rather then focusing efforts on people who most of us can “intuit” would not be very good in MLM; we should be focusing on the people who we can intuit WOULD be very good in MLM.
I don’t care what every “guru” who makes tons of money off thousands of people joining, buying product, and quitting after 3 months says….There are certain characteristics of the super successful people in MLM.
A simple guideline to follow is this. If you want to make extraordinary income…you have to be extraordinary! If you want to make ordinary income then be ordinary. That statement will either Empower some, or scare others away. And the ones who run away….you never believed in yourself enough to succeed anyway. The ones who stay….you got it in your blood and you’re destined for success.
If you want to succeed in MLM it all starts with knowing you are worthy to succeed in MLM. I have never seen a business where our insecurities and inadequacies will sabotage our true goals more quickly then the MLM industry. So what should you look for in your MLM sponsor? Simple….Leadership. Are they a leader? Are they the type of human being where you could honestly say “This person has great value to offer me, and I would gladly follow them.”
Because if you can say that….so will all your future prospects and business partners. And in MLM, people are everything. Our whole business is built around people, and people follow people. Not your company, not your new super duper product, not your triple binary quadruple bonus compensation plan….They join PEOPLE.
By finding the type of sponsor that you feel is very confident on the phone, has high energy, is very positive, and exuberates a Success Mentality; you will make growing a successful MLM organization much easier on yourself.
There is nothing worse then getting your fresh new prospect on the phone and having your supposed “expert” upline sound like a moron. Trust me.
Pay attention to all the fine details when you talk to your new potential sponsor. Sincerity in their voice, compassion, kindness, confidence, intelligence, determination; all the things you feel attracted to. How many times have you heard this….Talk to more people, make more calls, RECRUIT RECRUIT RECRUIT. Yuck….I shutter at the word recruit.
I have a secret to share. Many big network marketers have it all wrong. You see, they have this dynamic personality that will talk to 3 million people a day and go buck wild recruiting and signing people up. And because of the sheer numbers they throw a bunch of mud on the wall and some sticks, well that sticking mud just so happens to be key leaders that build huge organizations.
The Recruiting mentality works for a very small amount of people, but frankly….it is the wrong mentality to have in network marketing.
Network marketing boils down to this one thing and one thing only….Relationships, Relationships, and more Relationships.
The essence of everything we do is centered around relationships. When your focus is on building relationships with people, with establishing trust as the foundation of your experience together, EVERYTHING you do will be more beneficial and stable in the long run.
You are truly setting yourself up for life long partners, friends, and stable relationships whether business or personal. When you take the time to LISTEN to people, to care about them, and find out what it is would help them most….you plant the correct seeds out into the market place.
You become someone who other people trust, and will gladly listen to and follow. And they should! Because you really care about them and through your trust they know you wouldn’t steer them wrong.

People join people. They do not join companies, products, compensation plans, or any of the other things drilled into our minds early on in our MLM business. They join you….which means something very important. You have to be worth joining!
Throughout time there have been certain qualities and characteristics that have made certain people more attractive then others. MLM is no different. The characteristic that by far will attract the most people in MLM is leadership. I repeat Leadership. People join leaders.
Therefore if you want to succeed in MLM you have to breakdown and digest what it means to be a leader. You have to study leadership, embody leadership, and teach leadership. That’s a bold title….Is there really a single most important thing in Network Marketing? My answer is ABSOLUTELY. Albeit, there is definitely some competition for that single most important thing; there is still one thing that is so important….it flies right over most people’s heads.
It’s so simple, yet it’s the factor that can make or destroy everyone who attempts to create their dream lifestyle in network marketing.
The one thing and one thing only that is absolutely the most important thing….Do You Believe In Your Self?
So cliché right? Your beliefs absolutely will shape your reality. If you don’t believe you are worth every single thing you dream for then guess what….YOUR NOT. And you believe it. And just because of that belief, it will affect everyone who you talk to and everything you do.
On some level below the conscious mind you will silently be communicating to everyone that you don’t believe in yourself. That even you don’t think you are worthy to succeed. And believe me when I say that we as humans pick up on that subtle communication even if we aren’t conscious enough to verbalize it. It is registering within everyone you talk to you.
Your own self doubt will destroy your dreams in a heart beat. Flat out, I have now watched people time after time get so excited only to quit after three months….and why? Because they didn’t believe they could do it.
They threw away everything, just because they didn’t believe in themselves. But what about the people who do believe in themselves? We have all heard the stories….years spent struggling in network marketing, never making a thing or sponsoring no one; yet they persist. Why?
Because they believe in themselves. Deep down they know they will figure it out, and succeed. And the INDUSTRY wide statistic is 95% of ALL people who stay with a company for 10 years or longer reach the highest level of the company’s compensation plan. Close to $500,000 a year.
To me….that is absolutely amazing. In fact, it’s a phenomenon. The sheer proof of our beliefs affecting and CREATING our own reality. But to understand this is only the first step. The real work begins once you take on that arduous task of looking within to find your unstoppable source of power.

Also, if the company doesn't seem to care much about the demand for its products, don't sign up.
Does there seem to be more emphasis on getting more people to join than on the actual selling of the product? The differences between a pyramid scheme and a real MLM business opportunity can be traced back to the focus. While scams bank solely on recruitment to show fast profits, MLM companies have actual products to offer, and focuses on selling them.
Get as much information on the company as you can, including its business and marketing plans.
